Welcome to Nursery
Wadhurst Primary School is proud to have served the local community with its high-quality Nursery since 1972. In 2022 we expanded our provision to cater for 1 and 2 year-olds and in 2023 we were delighted to open our new, purpose-built Nursery building housing all our Pre-School children aged 1-4 years.
With imaginatively designed indoor and outdoor learning spaces to provide for the interests and developmental needs of each age group, we also offer a flexible provision to foster meaningful learning and interactions between children of all ages in Nursery. Our dedicated staff work tirelessly to offer a welcoming and stimulating environment that will inspire our children to develop curiosity, confidence and respect as the foundations for their life-long learning journey.
Guided by the Early Years Framework, our unique Wadhurst Early Years Curriculum has been carefully devised by Nursery and Reception staff in collaboration with school staff to ensure sequential learning and acquisition of knowledge and skills from the age of 1 through to 11. Our highly skilled qualified and trainee Nursery staff tailor their provision to offer stimulating learning opportunities through exploration, discovery, problem-solving and play.
We are excited to offer specialist dimensions to enhance our holistic provision such as Ready4School Music, a musical programme supporting children in their transition to Reception; Helicopter Stories, a creative story-telling approach promoting imaginative literacy and communication skills; Forest School enabling investigative learning in the natural world; engagement with Year 6 Play Leaders and friends throughout the school; and involvement in all whole school enrichment activities and church services.
We place great importance upon Parent Partnership and pride ourselves on the warm, caring and collaborative relationships we build with our families to support and nurture the children’s learning and development in all areas of their lives. Regular contact is maintained with parents/carers through our open door policy and Tapestry, our online learning journey in which we celebrate special learning moments both at nursery and at home. We also welcome families in to share our regular Open House events such as nativities, Share-a-Book and Easter Garden Making, and our whole school events such as Sports Day, Mulled Wine and Mince Pies, Summer Fair and our festival Church services.
If you would like to know more about our nursery or to arrange a visit, please contact our school office 01892 783155 .
We look forward to welcoming you to our Wadhurst family!
Funding
We accept government funding for all of our nursery sessions. If you are eligible to receive 15 hours or 30 hours funded childcare, it can be applied to any session that your child attends:
3-4 yr-olds: 15 and 30 hours funding
2 year olds: 15 hours from April 2024, 30 hours from September 2025 (when funding commences)
1 year-olds: 15 hours from September 2024, 30 hours from September 2025 (when funding commences)
Parents are required to claim the correct offer and to ensure that the funding code is kept up to date. Please visit childcarechoices.gov.uk for details on eligibility and how to claim.
We also accept payment via tax-free childcare and some childcare vouchers. Please contact us for further information.
Holiday Club
We are a term-time nursery, but do provide a Holiday Club during school holidays, with the exception of the last 2 weeks in August and 2 weeks at Christmas when we are closed.
Holiday Club is booked in advance and, as places are limited, is awarded on a first-come first-served basis as per our fees policy. Holiday Club operates for the usual session timings from 7:30am – 6:00pm. The stretched funding offer can be applied to term-time Nursery and any Holiday Club fees, however please be aware that this will reduce the hours you are able to claim per week during term time.
Forest School
Situated within the extensive school grounds overlooking the rolling Sussex countryside, we are fortunate to have access to the school’s wealth of resources and engaging environment. The spacious field with wooded areas is perfect for exercise and exploration, an exciting trim trail encourages many new physical skills, beautiful views overlook neighbouring sheep fields and Bewl Water, the school playground offers further exciting activity challenges and our thriving Forest School has been creatively established in the orchards.
As a new-build we are currently developing our outdoor area and hope to add a Nursery Forest School to our provision in the near future. This will make use of our fantastic outdoor facilities and compliment the Forest School, of which all the children currently have use.
